Voted Big Island's Best Overall and Best Value in SCUBA Diving Magazine's Reader Ratings October 2006!

SCUBA Diving Magazine

A recent customer testimonial:

John, Frank, John, Raschael, Tom and the rest of the crew at Kona Honu Divers... We have just returned from a 12 day... 12 dive trip to Kona (minus 25 when we got home!) and wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed diving with you.   The service, on the boats was simply remarkable.   Knowledgeable people, great guides and captains, outstanding customer service and customer appreciation is what we will remember most.  We have been throughout the Hawaiian Islands... The Caribbean and Mexico on dive boats and yours are simply the best. We were very fortunate to have Frank with us on all but one of our trips and really enjoyed his good nature and professionalism. He's a great ambassador for your company and for the scuba industry. We tried diving at home but it's just not the same!   We hope to be diving with you again soon. With thanks..

Manta Ray Night Dive

The Kona Coast features many diverse dive environments including lava tubes, caves, and arches. It is often worthwhile to go into caverns and lava tubes to see if there are any interesting critters hiding there. We can find sleeping sharks, nudibranchs, and other noctural animals there. Come join us for a wonderful experience. We are one of only three Big Island dive operators to earn the top "Recommended" rating in the ultimate guidebook, "The Big Island Revealed". Excerpts from their review include, "a beautiful 45-foot boat with plenty of shade", "their guides are professional", and "relaxed pace". Come see for yourself or read some testimonials and then decide who you want to dive with.

Fun Time with SCUBA Radio

Kona Honu Divers on the Radio! Greg, Scott, and Angela (a.k.a. "The mermaid") visited us for several days of diving and they dedicated a couple of their shows to diving with us here in Kona. You can click here to listen to the first show. If you think diving in Hawaii isn't world class, you should hear what the crew at Scuba Radio have to say. The crew joined us on our dolphin swim on their last day (a great way to maximize your "in the water time" and still fly home safely). You can hear them talk about the incredible experience by clicking here.

A Special Treat

Whale SharkBig Fish! We found the "holy grail" for divers on a recent charter when Captain Tom stumbled upon a 25' whale shark while motoring between dive sites. After receiving a briefing ("no touchie,..., don't worry they only eat plankton"), we entered the water. The gentle giant seemed curious about the two legged fish splashing about and we spent a good 45 minutes snorkeling with him. Bo Pardau, our most eloquent dive master has written up a piece complete with pictures describing this exceptional encounter. Click here to bring up his account of this magical day.

TOP TEN REASONS TO DIVE WITH KONA HONU DIVERS. INC.

Kona Honu Divers is locally owned and operated. From the moment you step into the shop or prepare to board one of our boats, the "Honu One" or the "Honu Iki", you become part of our "ohana" or family. The 46' "Honu One" and 36' "Honu Iki" are custom built dive boats. They are extremely seaworthy, reliable, and fast with a smooth rides. They offer a comfortable environment for passengers as we visit one of over 80 pristine dive sites that make the Kona coast such a great place to dive. Our custom dive boats have DAN oxygen units, first aid kits, and UNLIKE THE SMALL 6 pack boats, are coast guard inspected and approved. On a typical charter, you are one of 10 to 12 divers sharing our spacious vessels. This is less than 50% maximum capacity. There is lots of room for divers to "stretch out". Both our boats have marine heads or toilets, fresh water showers, dedicated camera table, rinse tanks, and lots of shade.

At Kona Honu Divers, the crew takes all the work out of diving. We set up your gear while you are checking in on the dock. When it's time to dive we make entering the water extremely simple and safe. A crew member will carry your gear to the stern while you wait, seated, on one of two metal benches. All that's left is for you to strap on your tank and stride into the clear, calm Kona water. After your first dive enjoy fresh island fruit and a cool drink while the crew switches your gear over to a fresh tank. After your second dive your gear is rinsed for you as we motor back to the harbor.

Our dives are guided by knowledgeable instructors who brief you on what to expect to see before you enter the water. Encounters with dolphin, turtles, and manta rays are common in the placid Kona waters and other visitors make special appearances to assure that every dive can turn into something extraordinary.
