In 2016, we made the conscious decision to conduct the night dive/snorkel at the northern location by the airport (Garden Eel Cove). This site comfortably and respectfully provides our snorkelers and divers a beautiful opportunity to view manta rays as they swirl, flip, and glide while feasting on plankton.
Why? Your safety, comfort, and the health of the underwater environment. Manta rays are dependent upon people to make hard decisions like these. Since our core values are safety, kindness, passion, stewardship, and fun - it seemed like a no brainer to put your safety, the mantas safety, and care for the underwater environment first. It was a tough decision (and still is occasionally), but it was the right one and we are proud to have been the first to make the decision.
Imagine this...30+ boats at a site where mantas are a bit more dispersed and the majority of the vessels are live boating, meaning their engines are running, and they are maneuvering to remain in place or move about the area to best view the mantas while snorkelers and divers are in the water. If an underwater emergency should occur and a diver was forced to surface near live propellers - the likelihood of a larger emergency increases. It is YOUR safety at hand! Additionally, the underwater environment at the southern site (Keauhou Sheraton) does not form a natural viewing area on the seafloor. There are more live corals, endemic Hawaiian reef fishes, and sea urchins to harm or harm you while viewing mantas from the seafloor.
Thank you for choosing Kona Honu Divers and valuing our commitment to safety, kindness, passion, stewardship, and fun!
Please be informed of our 48-hour cancellation policy.
You may make changes or cancellations to your reservations up to 48 hours prior to the trip without penalty. Afterwards, all changes, cancellations, or no-shows will not be issued a refund unless the space is filled by another diver. If we are able to fill the space a full refund will be issued. If we are unable to fill the space we cannot issue a refund. The only exception to this policy will be if we receive a medical note from a local doctor for a treatment/exam which must have taken place within 48 hours of the check-in time of the missed dive. This does not waive the companion diver or snorkeler.
