The rescue diver scuba course in Kona is possibly the most challenging scuba class you will take as a scuba diver. It can also be the most rewarding. In this course, you will learn how to mentally and physically deal with dive-related and everyday emergencies. It is a physically intensive course requiring the diver to lift and drag divers from the surf and onto a boat. In addition to handling emergencies learn how to avoid them by making good choices. Avoid mishaps before they occur by learning how to evaluate readiness and conditions.

Rescue Diver Course requirements?

  • Completed Diver Medical Form
  • Advanced Open Water Certification and current EFR certification or equivalent, which can be combined into the class.

How many dives do you need for Rescue Diver certification?

There is no dive requirement to take the rescue diver course. You only have to have the advanced open water certification.

How long does it take to get Rescue Diver?

You can get certified in as little as 2 days.

Is the Rescue Diver course hard?

It is physically demanding because you will be pulling other divers in and out of the water. This requires a great deal of strength especially if your classmates are heavy.

Does Rescue Diver certification expire?

Yes and no. The certification never expires but you should get refreshed or re-activated based on how long it’s been since your last dive. See this article for details.

How deep can a Rescue Diver go?

Since Rescue Diver is about safety your depth limit is determined by the last course you took before it. If you took the Kona advanced scuba certification course you can go 100 feet or 30 meters. If you took the PADI deep diver specialty course you can dive down to 40 m or 130 feet (the recreational limit).

Do rescue divers get paid?

Only if you’re certified as a commercial diver which is a whole training program for professionals.

What is after PADI Rescue Diver?

The next available certification is the master scuba diver certification. This is achieved by taking a number of specialty courses until the rating is achieved.

What level is a Rescue Diver?

It is third after Open Water and Advanced Open Water scuba certification courses.
